Direct Allocation

Direct cost allocation is a financial accounting process used by businesses to attribute specific costs directly to particular cost centers, projects, products, or activities. This method assigns expenses that can be traced directly to a single cost objective, enabling more accurate cost tracking and analysis.

Direct Cost Allocation is the optimal method in these scenarios:

Yksinkertainen ja suoraviivainenOrganisaationne perustuu Lean -ajatteluunEi välttämättä kuvaa koko ustannusrakennetta, jos kustannuksia syntyy useissa yksiköissä.

Step-Down Cost Allocation

In the competitive business world, understanding costs is essential. The Step-Down Cost Allocation method offers precision by using a hierarchical approach, distributing costs from higher overhead departments down to others. This not only mirrors real-world inter-departmental interactions but eliminates overlapping allocations. It fosters accountability, prompting efficient resource use and better collaboration.

Step Down Cost Allocation is the optimal method in these scenarios:

How Cost Grinder works?

Expenses are brought from the ERP system to Cost Grinder, where, with the allocation rules set by the company, costs are rolled down to lower dimensions, after which the final result is returned to the ERP system. The original costs in the accounting are overwritten with more precisely categorized data. As a result, more accurate reporting is achieved in the accounting reports from the ERP system.

Cost Grinder is ERP-agnostic: The formats and content of the data produced by the ERP system and the input format it requires are customized for each ERP/customer-specific case.

Data transfer can be done either through the clipboard or by using files. The program can handle data from all of the group’s companies. The maximum number of dimensions is 8.

Cost allocation can be done either in a single step or by using the Step-Down method, where after the first allocation, the result data is rolled down with the rules of the 2nd phase, and the results of that are rolled down with the 3rd set of rules, and so on.

With Cost Grinder, you can also perform roll-downs on the balance sheet side, where internal balance sheet items of the company are allocated among different units or functions. The result of the roll-down can be used, for example, as the basis for generating intra-group invoices.

Success is not just about numbers and calculations; it’s the skill to understand their deeper meaning. Cost Grinder is a cost allocation software designed specifically for those who need to make decisions based on precise information and optimize the financial performance of the company.
